As part of ourDamage Prevention Program, our team regularly attends community and industry events to raise awareness of safe digging procedures and promote the importance of always calling or clicking before you dig.
Buried utilities can be located as little as a few centimetres before the surface, so no matter how small a project may seem, the first step should always be to place a free utility locate request by visiting clickbeforeyoudig.com. Locate requests need to be placed three days in advance of any digging project to determine if there are any buried utilities present in their planned digging locations. We attend and host a number of different events throughout the year, including educational seminars, community events, and construction expos. A few of the events we attended earlier this year are:
Pacific Agriculture Show in Abbotsford
In January, we exhibited at the annual Pacific Agriculture Show in Abbotsford. It was a great opportunity to connect with many of our neighbours in the community, provide information about safe digging near our pipeline right-of-way and hand out plenty of BC 1 Call brochures. You may have seen us at our booth as you made your way to the petting zoo!
Dig Safe Seminars in Abbotsford, Vancouver and Kamloops
In February and March, we presented at DigSafe Seminars in Abbotsford, Vancouver and Kamloops. These seminars, hosted by organizations with underground utilities, offer an opportunity for contractors and excavators to learn about ground disturbance regulations and requirements of major utility owners. Attendees earn education credits that are used towards industry certification requirements. We presented alongside our partners from the BC Common Ground Alliance (BCCGA), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting consistent standards for worker safety and damage prevention for underground utilities. Trans Mountain is also a member of the Alberta Common Ground Alliance.
BC Construction Expo
In early March, we exhibited with our BCCGA partners at the BC Construction Expo in Surrey where we had lots of great conversations with local contractors. Trans Mountain also co-presented with Fortis BC to contractors interested in learning more about working safely around our respective infrastructure.
